I'm Back! I was temporarily ou t of touch because I just got
myself a nice new modem for my home. Unfortunately I have a
dinosaur for a computer and all sorts of problems started to show
up. Anyway, i am now posting this from the comfort of my home!
I just have one comment at this time, and it is that the name
Zippy may not be so bad after all. I think this because I have
told many of my friends about this whole thing. Most of them are
not impressed by the name, but then are attracted to the ideas it
represents. I find that by telling them right off the start that
there is this thing going on that has a stupid name, they are not
so defensive. It is like they can listen to the ideas, without
any preconceived notions of what it might be about. It also
gives the impression that it is a movement that is more than a
name, and is not calling for people to mindlessly follow some
banner or anthem. It is also good in that it seems to be a name
that NOBODY really associates with, and so for the same reason,
everybod èy can associate with it. It will not be a name of a sub
group like ravers or rainbows or whatever, but of the common
ideology that links them all in our quest for a better future!

I agree with Ian. Since its *inevitable* that if this goes anywhere, it
will show up in tabloid media reduced to the lowest common denominator
that they can manage, we might as we *proactively* use a silly sounding
non-descriptive name (I think Life Magazine came up with "hippie") and
just get it out of the way. If we have ideals that bind us across the
frontiers of our individ èual interests, sub-cultures, and backgrounds,
these ideals can then remain relatively unmolested "beneath the surface"
as it were. Our fifteen minutes of fame can come and go with minimal
distraction to the real goal of realiizng our dreams. Anyone who'll
listen past the word, can probably find something to relate to in those
dreams. Anyone who can't, may not be ready yet or may prefer to make Bob
Dole's dreams come true :-) Better these last should think of us as
inconsequential and just go about their business (and let fly the dogs of
*p*e*a*c*e* )

Interesting approach. One I can identify with, though. I quickly learned
after my rebellious days in highschool that the best way to promote a
subversive perspective is to fade into the background; become NORMAL!
Ironic, after so many years of TV and pop culture overload we're actively
SEEKING avoidance of Warhol's "15 minutes"! Then again, doesn't this
approach embody the PRONOIA aspect of Zippdom, plotting to HELP people
behind their backs? Ssshhhh...
